[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/6&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;non_h1 center bol&#8221;]When to see the cardiologist?[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;center&#8221;]According to the WHO (World Health Organisation), cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death worldwide. Much of this, particularly the proportion caused by arteriosclerosis, can largely be avoided by early identification and adequate control of the main risk factors, both by lifestyle changes and by starting medication if necessary. These main risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and diabetes. Age and family load are also important factors that are naturally beyond one&#8217;s control, but which must be taken into account when determining the overall risk profile. Partly as a result of improved cardiovascular prevention, we have seen a decrease in mortality due to cardiovascular diseases over the past three decades. We call this the anamnesis. Then we proceed to the clinical examination of the patient. On the basis of these findings we plan the necessary technical examinations, which are described below. Finally, we make a summary of the results and follow an extensive discussion with the patient. If necessary, we propose a clear treatment plan and follow-up schedule.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;1297&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row full_width=&#8221;stretch_row&#8221; el_class=&#8221;raadpleging_more&#8221;][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<em> Which examinations do we offer at the cardiology consultation depending on the indication? <\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electrocardiogram at rest<\/li>\n<li>Electrocardiogram at exertion (cycling test)<\/li>\n<li>Transthoracic echocardiography (echo of the heart)<\/li>\n<li>Holter monitoring (continuous recording of the heart rhythm for 24 or 48 hours at your home)<\/li>\n<li>24 hour blood pressure measurement (automatic blood pressure recording at your home for 24 hours)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For other additional examinations or treatments we work together with the Imelda Hospital in Bonheiden (B3 heart centre).
